Mark V. Anderson Character-in-Action™ Leadership Award:
Making a Difference in your life and in the lives of others.
Introduction
A person with good character shows trustworthiness, respect, responsibility, fairness and citizenship. Whether he donates his time and energy to a worthy cause, acts as a role model for the youth of his community or simply goes out of his way to help others, Sigma Chi recognizes this as Character-in-Action™.
Those members who go out of their way and beyond what is expected to help others, those who overcome obstacles and lead with integrity, are good candidates for the Mark V. Anderson Character-in-Action™ Leadership Award.
Sigma Chi introduced the award in 2005 to recognize the selfless acts of brothers. Sigma Chi is known for building leaders, and our members have a reputation of acting with character to change their communities. A formal recognition from the General Fraternity not only applauds these actions, but also allows non-members a chance to appreciate the scope and mission of the organization.
The Krach Family Foundation endowed the award in perpetuity in 2007, and now the honor carries with it a grant to assist the recipient in carrying out his selfless actions. The award was endowed in the honor of past Executive Secretary Mark V. Anderson, Illinois 1977.
Award Criteria
- Nominee must be a Sigma Chi
- Recognition should be for an action/deed rather than a donation
- Should be focused on extraordinary service rather than monetary sacrifice
- Recognition should be for an action that leads to the betterment or support of the community, not for Sigma Chi Fraternity
- Cannot be recognized for a service/action done as part of his compensated employment responsibility
