W. Thomas Geddings


W. Thomas (Tommy) Geddings, Jr., SOUTH CAROLINA 1985, pledged Sigma Chi on Aug. 1, 1981, and was initiated on Nov. 14 of that year. As an undergraduate, he served the chapter as alumni chairman, PR chairman, recruitment chairman and Magister (pledge trainer). Since his graduation, Geddings has been a board member of several chapters' house corporations, including the chapters at the College of Charleston, the University of South Carolina and Western Carolina University. In 1989, he was appointed to serve as a member of the Ritual Committee, and continued in the role until 1995. From 1989 to 1992 and again from 1995 to 2003, Tommy served as Grand Praetor (regional advisor) of the South Carolina province. A long-time member of the Columbia (S.C.) Alumni Chapter, he served as its president from 2001 to 2002, as its vice president from 2003 to 2010 and as its treasurer from 2010 to 2012. In 2003, Tommy became one of the Fraternity's Grand Trustees, a position that he held until 2011. During that term of service, he was the Grand Trustee liaison to the Grand Praetors as well as the Grand Trustee representative to the Executive Committee. Geddings was an early and long-time member of the Fraternity's Cornerstone Operating Board, which he served from 2003 to 2011. He joined the Fraternity's rules, organization and procedures committee in 2002 and again in 2010, and was also a member of Sigma Chi's Governing Laws Committee from 2003 to 2007. In 2009, he was appointed to the Peterson Significant Chapter Award task force, which he was a member of until 2011, and was a member of the hosting committee where for the 2009 Grand Chapter in Charleston, S.C. He has attended many Balfour Leadership Training Workshops and served on the workshop's faculty on numerous occasions. In 2010, Geddings was appointed to the board of directors of Constantine Capital Inc. Tommy's Executive Committee experience includes two terms as the Grand Trustee representative from 2007 to 2011, and his present term of Grand Quaestor (international treasurer), which began with his election to the position at the 78th Grand Chapter in Dallas, Texas, in 2011 and continues following his re-elecation at the 79th Grand Chapter in Washington, DC in 2013. As Grand Quaestor, he is a member of the Fraternity's Audit Committee and chairman of the Budget and Investment committees. In 2011, the Fraternity recognized Tommy for his outstanding lifelong contributions by inducting him into the Order of Constantine, which is the Fraternity's highest honor for an alumnus member.

Tommy earned his B.S. degree in accounting from the University of South Carolina in 1985, and his Juris Doctorate from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1987. In 1988, he started his career in the legal field through the Clarendon County Public Defender Corp., where he worked as an assistant public defender. From 1988 to 1991, Tommy was an associate at the law firm Coffey, Cooper, Chandler and DuRant, and from 1989 to 2003 he was an adjunct professor at Central Carolina Technical College. In 1991, Geddings founded the Geddings Law Firm, where he remains today as owner and managing attorney. He lives in Manning, S.C. with his wife Jane, and is the proud father of son William T. Geddings III, SOUTH CAROLINA 2014, and daughter Mary.
