Make Sure You’re Ready For Your Horizons Session

Double check items needed for trip to Snowbird, Utah
June 4, 2013

The Fraternity’s 2013 Horizons leadership development program has started, with the first session launched from June 2–9, 2013, and the second session beginning June 16 in Snowbird, Utah.

The Fraternity would like to offer a checklist and some reminders for the 192 undergraduates who will be attending the program this year.

What to Wear?
Snowbird provides an informal atmosphere for the Horizons event. Some of the learning will occur in the Snowbird conference facilities and some will occur outside in the splendor of the Rocky Mountains. Snowbird sits at 8,000 feet. Typical weather includes cool mornings and evenings with dry, warm afternoons in between. Participants may be walking through fields, in the woods, or up the side of the mountain, so pack casual clothes suitable for outdoor mountain activity. It is a good idea for participants to dress in layers so that they can adjust to temperature changes during the course of the day’s events.

Suggested items to bring:

  • Loose-fitting pants as participants should be comfortable hiking, bending, or climbing.
  • Jeans or sweat pants are fine. Participants may want to bring shorts along if it gets hot.
  • T-shirts, sweatshirts and a lightweight jacket, waterproof in case of rain.
  • Comfortable running, walking, biking, or hiking shoes. No open-toed shoes.
  • Sunglasses, lip balm and plenty of sunscreen. Warm clothes.

What Else to Bring:

  • Swimming suit.
  • Camera (optional).
  • Insect repellent.
  • Allergy kit/medication, if needed.

Horizons is a substance-free program. From the time participants arrive in Salt Lake City until the time they depart, they are not allowed to consume alcohol. Failure to comply will result in immediate dismissal from the program at the cost of the participant.
